Meeting the needs of the rider is what the ideal pair of dirt bike boots should do. This means a boot that will provide comfort, protection and functionality. While many people choose to ride in a standard pair of work boots, they will not provide the specialized dirt biking needs that require riders.

Protection is critical in motocross and dirt bike footwear. For leg and foot protection, dirt bike boots are more inflexible than ordinary boots. And, most motocross footwear will list the protection and features provided by each boot model.

Many off road boot manufacturers reinforce their boots at the calf and ankle. This is wear your boot generally will rub on the dirt bike and the reinforcement will help protect your skin from chafing and scratches. Be sure that your buckles close firmly and are working properly.
